RESEARCH WORKFLOW GUIDE

Plan engineering experiments from sample to analysis.

A practical research calendar guide for materials characterization, electrical measurements, device research and engineering laboratories — from a sample ID to the next instrument session.

Engineering experiments often depend on sequential steps: samples must be prepared before characterization, equipment slots must be confirmed, and analysis must happen before the next decision. BenchCadence helps you record these dates and see them in day, week and month views. It does not reserve instruments or connect to lab equipment.

Four practical ways to plan this research workflow

1Keep samples distinct

Use clear event names such as “Sample A · thickness measurement” or “Sample B · electrical test”. Avoid recording confidential fabrication parameters in a public or shared context.

2Separate booking from execution

Record the actual equipment reservation as a fixed event, then schedule preparation and data analysis separately. Confirm availability in your lab's booking system.

3Make dependencies visible

A delayed sample affects downstream measurements. Keep a contingency slot for equipment interruptions and repeated measurements; verify every move against the relevant protocol.

4Schedule communication as well as experiments

Include figure preparation, a supervisor review, weekly meetings and presentation preparation so data collection is not mistaken for project completion.

This is a fictional scheduling example, not a validated laboratory protocol or safety checklist. Equipment booking, electrical safety, chemicals, vacuum systems and lab SOPs remain your responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

Is this only for semiconductor labs?

No. It also suits experimental electrical engineering, mechanical testing, physics and materials research. It does not control instruments.

Can it book my instrument for me?

No. Confirm reservations through your laboratory's approved booking system. BenchCadence can display manually entered booking dates alongside your other events.
